The Criminal Investigations Division is a Division of the Law Enforcement Services under the Command of Major Craig Dodson , however the daily supervision is under Captain Shane Taylor, Sgt. Mike Lavoie and Sgt. Marc Griffith. This is one the fastest growing divisions within the department.
While all investigators can assist with any type of case, due the overwhelming amount and complexity of the cases being assigned, investigators have been assigned to sub-units of crimes against persons and crimes against property. We presently have two investigators assigned to work family violence cases. These positions are grant funded at present.
The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for:
- Conducting investigations into reported criminal activity and to make routine duty decisions independently, although technical and legal advise is available from the Supervisor
- Conducting investigations into apprehension activity arising from preventive patrol and in response to calls for service
- Conducting preliminary investigations, interviews, and inquiries
- Collecting evidence and maintaining the chain of custody
- Administrative activities such as evaluating and managing caseloads, providing service to the public and other activities not associated with assigned cases
- Follow-up activities such as arrests, reports, and court preparation
